Right now scanning and profile dampening operate at very absolute values. You are either above or below each tier of scanner and it is also irrelevant if you are anything else. I suggest this method of changing scanners vs what CCP has released. Here is my idea; broaden out the scanner spectrum based on utility.
Active Scanner: 46 db, 100m range, 5 visibility 10 cool down , angle 60 Flux Scanner: 50 dB, 150m range, 5 visibility, 10 cool down, angle 30
A-86 Scanner: 36 dB 100m range, 5 visibility, 10 cool down, angle 60 A-45 Quantum Scanner: 42 dB, 100m range, 15 visibility, 20 cool down, angle 60 A-19 Stable: 36 dB, 100m range, 5 visibility, 10 cool down (costs more ISK, but less CPU/PG), angle 60 *A-72 Focused: 28 dB, 100m range, 5 visibility, 20 cool down, angle 60
CreoDron: 28 dB, 100m range, 5 visibility, 10 cool down, angle 60 Duvolle Quantum: 34 dB, 100m range, 25 visibility, 30 cool down, angle 60 CreoDron Flux: 32 dB, 200m range, visibile 10, cool down 20, angle 90 CreoDron Proxy: 28 dB, 60m range, 10 visibility, 10 cooldown, angle 45 Duvolle Focus: 20 dB, 100m range, 5 visibility, 20 cool down, angle 60
Now all scanners have a 1 second scan duration, this will eliminate the problem of 360 scanning. Then with the scan dB of each scanner being far more varied the user will have to consider utility vs a lower dB rating. Ex: the quantum scanner has the longest visibility duration but results in a much higher dB rating which is difficult for detecting scouts but can still detect most medium or heavy frame suits. Then the focused scanner has the lowest dB rating but has a longer cool down time for it.
Also with these changes it can actually be relevant for medium frame suits to consider profile dampening, as single complex profile damp with max skills will hide an assault suit from advanced quantum scanners. Thus preventing said person be being exposed for long periods of time.
*I added the A-72 Focused scanner because there is no reason not to have a focused scanner at the advanced level and will provide a cheaper but less effective alternative to the Duvolle Focused scanner for scout hunting.
Conclusion: Dampening is more realistic because scanner dB is spread out, making it worth dampening on suits other than scouts. Also each scanner becomes more useful as well based on what you want to do with it, rather than everyone running quantum scanners because everything else is less useful. |
